How much does an ignition interlock cost?

Most companies advertise a monthly or daily price, but what you pay is that price times the months on your order, plus install, calibration visits, removal and any fees along the way. In Texas, for example, advertised lease and install come to roughly $840 to $1,374 for a 12-month order before any of those fees.

Updated Oct 23, 2026How we check

Total cost for a 6, 12 or 24-month order

Advertised lease plus advertised install from the companies with Texas prices, checked Oct 23, 2026. Calibration, removal and other fees come on top.

6 months$420–$762
12 months$840–$1,374
24 months$1,680–$2,598

Per-company totals and a calculator are on the Texas page.

Ignition interlock fees beyond the monthly price

Few companies publish their full fee list. New York makes them file one with the state, so those filings are the best side-by-side view of what each fee runs. Amounts apply in New York; other states differ, but the same fees show up.

State fees on top

Some states charge their own program or license fees, separate from the company's bill.

StateState fees
CaliforniaThe DMV charges a $103 administrative service fee during the mandatory interlock period, or $125 for an APS interlock restriction. No monthly state fee turned up in our research. Reissue, duplicate and restriction fees apply on top of the administrative service fee.34
ConnecticutThe license reinstatement fee is $175. The state charges a $100 IID administration fee. The DMV sets no fixed price for the device itself, so what you pay depends on the vendor.35
District of ColumbiaThe program charges a $50.00 application and enrollment fee, and it is non-refundable.36
GeorgiaThe IDLP costs $25, and a 2-month renewal costs $5. Having the interlock restriction removed costs $100, plus any reinstatement fees you owe.37
IdahoThe RDP application costs $60 (ITD form 3227). Reinstatement costs $245 after an ALS suspension and $285 after a DUI suspension.38
IllinoisMDDP holders pay the Secretary of State a monthly administration fee of up to $30. Under the rule it is paid in advance, at $30 per month for the months left on the suspension.39
IowaNo interlock program fee was found. A revocation carries a $200 civil penalty, which has to be paid before a TRL or reinstatement.40
KansasThe division charges a $100 application fee when you apply to modify the suspension and get the restricted license. Manufacturers pay the state $10 one time for each device installed on or after July 1, 2025, and $5 per month for each device in use. Those fees may be passed through to you.41
MaineYou pay a $50 administrative fee to the Secretary of State, and it comes on top of the regular reinstatement fee.42
MarylandThe MVA lists a $47 enrollment fee, and it can be waived. State law says the program fee is set to cover the cost of the program and is waived for indigent individuals.43
MinnesotaThe state cannot require you to pay the reinstatement fee and surcharge before the restricted license is issued. Both are due before full reinstatement, and Minn. Stat. 171.306 does not state the amounts.44
MississippiThe state charges manufacturers $1,000 per model per year for certification and charges service centers $100 per location per year. These are fees on the companies, so they sit behind the price caps you see.45
NebraskaAn original permit costs $45.00 plus a $5.00 security surcharge, for $50.00 total. A replacement is $11.00 plus $5.00, or $16.00, and a change of class, endorsement or restriction is $5.00 plus $5.00, or $10.00.46
New MexicoNew Mexico collects an annual Indigent Fund fee from DWI convicts while the device is installed. The MVD page does not give the amount, so check the current figure before you budget for it.47
OhioWhen an interlock is ordered, the court adds a mandatory $2.50 court cost, and it may add a second $2.50 at its discretion. The money goes to the public safety highway purposes fund.48
OklahomaThe Board charges a $150 enrollment fee, and device fees are extra. Violations and lockouts can also bring fees paid to the service center and the state.49
PennsylvaniaThe application requires the section 1951 license fee and restoration fees under sections 1960 and 1547(b.2). Applying at a driver license center adds $11, and the other dollar amounts are on PennDOT's fee sheet.50
South CarolinaProviders collect up to $30 per month for each month you must drive with a device and send it to the state Ignition Interlock Device Fund. Vendor fees are separate, and the official pages we opened do not publish them.51
South DakotaThe Attorney General's blank participation agreement lists a $1.00 daily participation fee, a $40.00 enrollment fee and $20.00 for each periodic inspection. Fees are set by administrative rule and may change, and you also pay the vendor and all other costs.52
TennesseeThe state charges a $12.50 administrative fee per new user at installation and again each year, which the manufacturer collects and passes along. Caps on manufacturer charges include $75 an hour for installation (up to 3 hours), $125 a month for lease, monitoring and maintenance, and $75 for removal.53
TexasOn a bond order, the magistrate may set a monthly reimbursement fee of up to $10 for verifying and monitoring the device. If a personal bond office supervises an occupational license, that supervision costs $25 to $60 a month.54
VermontThe application fee is $125, and the renewal fee is $125.55
VirginiaThe court charges a $20 fee to cover court and administrative costs. Providers can charge you up to $65 for a standard installation and $95 plus taxes for monthly calibration or monitoring, and removal carries a $0 cap.56
WashingtonThe Department of Licensing side is $21 per month per device, which funds records and indigent assistance. The State Patrol page lists a $10 installation fee and a $5 monthly monitoring fee, and lease costs are set by the manufacturer with no cap found.57
West VirginiaThe application carries a non-refundable $100 fee, paid by certified check or money order, and the application stays valid for 6 months. The statute also provides for a user fee paid in advance.58
WisconsinThe court imposes a $50 ignition interlock surcharge, which you pay to the clerk of court. You also pay the reasonable cost of equipping and maintaining the device, and the statute sets no fee cap.59
WyomingThe state charges a $100 ignition interlock administrative fee, and the statute caps that fee at $125. The fee is waived for approved indigent applicants.60

If you can't afford it

Several states require discounts or waivers for drivers who qualify, and some courts can reduce fees. See help paying for an interlock before you book.
